​When are tax statements sent? 

All current year tax statements are mailed on July 15 each tax year.



​​​​Why is a previously owned vehicle appearing on my current tax statement?​

All taxes are assessed a year behind. For example, 2023 taxes would include personal property you owned on July 1, 2022. If your statement is incorrect, please call the Logan County Assessor’s Office 304-792-8520.


Where is my account number located on my tax statement? 

The account number is located in the top right-hand corner in small writing ACCOUNT NO.


I didn’t receive my tax statement. How can I find out how much I owe? 

Either call our office at 304-792-8680 or you may look your taxes up online at wvpropertytaxes.com or clicking on the Tax Inquiry link on this website.


Do I still owe Taxes if I DO NOT receive a tax statement? 

Yes, if you owned real or personal property on July 1 of the previous tax year, you are still required to pay real estate and personal property taxes in the current tax year. The West Virginia legislature has included such a duty in WV Code 11A-1-8. If you do not receive a Tax Statement before August 1 of the current tax year please contact the Logan County Assessors Office to verify your address. Also, you can ask for a next year Assessment Form from the County Assessors office 304-792-8520.


Where can I find what my taxes are applied to? 

There will be a PROPERTY DESCRIPTION on the left top of your mailed tax statement. On the online statement, right side in the middle of page.


Will I be notified that my taxes are delinquent if I forget to pay? 

Yes, in May and September of each year, the Logan County Sheriff's Tax Department publishes a list of all delinquent real property taxes in the local newspaper. In September the Tax Office mails by certified mail a notice to the taxpayer.  You will receive a delinquent notice on personal propery in May.


What do I need in order to receive my DMV sticker at the courthouse on Tuesdays? 

You will need the TWO-PART renewal registration card, insurance card, and your tax receipt.


Do you do two-year stickers? 

No, we only do ONE YEAR renewals for CLASS A.


Why is there an extra $2 fee for DMV renewals? 

This is a handling fee.


Payments


Can I pay my taxes by phone? ​

No, you can pay online, by mail, or come to the tax office counter room 208 in the Logan County Tax Office, Logan County Court House.


Does the Logan County Tax Office take credit cards? 

Yes, we accept Visa, Master Card, Discover, and American Express at the tax counter or online. A $3.95 convenience fee is charged for a Visa Debit card or a $3.00 fee plus 2.25% interest is charged for a convenience fee for all other types of Debit and Credit cards.


Can I mail my payment? 

Yes, the address is: Sheriff of Logan County 300 Stratton Street Room 208 Logan, WV 25601. (Please write your account number or ticket number on the check or include a portion of your tax statement with these numbers on it.)  There is no​ convenience fee for checks, money order, cash or bank certified checks.


Will I receive a receipt if I mail in a payment? 

Yes, a receipt will be mailed, we process taxes the same day we receive it.


Do I receive a discount for prompt payment of my taxes?

Yes, if you pay for the current year taxes by September 1 for the 1st ½ year taxes and by March 1 on the 2nd ½ year taxes you will receive a 2 ½ % discount.


How do I apply for Homestead Exemption? 

If you are age 65 or older or 100% disabled, contact the Logan County Assessor’s Office at 304-792-8520.


Who do I contact for an address change? 

You will need to call the Logan County Assessors Office or there is a CHANGE OF ADDRESS form online at wvpropertytaxes.com.  You can also call the Logan County Sheriff's Tax Department for a form to be mailed to you.
